FUSION ONE

this is a mash-up album fusing global traditional music and modern bass/beats. if you've ever wondered what Digital Gamelan is like, or what Capetown gospel singers do after moving to London Ghettos, or how Robots would play Ethiopian Jazz...

erasing lines, fusing edges, reconnecting all mutations, permutations, lost strains, divided strands, and myriad variations of the deeper-than-we-remember roots from which we all come. limits are arbitrary, borders are lies, separation is illusion.

SEPARATE TRACKS DOWNLOAD: mediafire or megaupload

and i had no idea this was on soundcloud until now: thanks I3ong!

Brilliant...a great follow up to the Blogariddims mix, and I appreciate the separation of tracks too. Keep up the great work. I'll be looking for Fusion Two ;-)

great mix, the blogariddims one was the soundtrack of many trips this summer. However, I am slightly annoyed by the track separation, I'm sure i'm not the only one here, O mighty Zhao, if its not too much of a hassle, may you upload a single file version? many thanks

no problem Ed, single file coming up!

Great job Zhao, found it on the hollerboard. Kind of like an easy-listening version of /Rupture, but I mean that as a compliment. I'll pass along the link.

single track options added!

Re: "easy listening" -- thanks for the comment and I'm not taking it the wrong way at all... but some of the tracks in the middle and end of it are pretty heavy and menacing no? anyhow with this one i wanted to make beautiful things which reward repeated listening in a variety of situations and moods (not the least of which being stoned :)

Great. I loved the blogariddims mix: now you've taken it to the next level.

Inspiring stuff. Keep up the good work!

Great mix! It's really well done - very polished.

I've been listening to it quite a bit.

Loooking forward to Part Two!

Zhao,

This sounds like an awesome concept. I'm often turned off by the sound of traditional music mixed with contemporary electronic beats, but your description has me intrigued. If you are interested, I recently posted a podcast on my blog with a theme of songs that you might hear while floating in space. It covers everything from obscure songs about UFO's to snippets from cult sci-fi films; from ambient instrumentals to charged up space rock. I think you might really dig it, and I'd love to hear what you think.

Best, Kevin

Dear Zhao,

Excellent work, I greatly appreciate the contrast between the varying eras of music, especially your fusion/incorporation of traditional music, music which recalls history (on a collective worldwide scale, breaking beyond nationalism, caste, creed and age and gender) – An epic serving with base-filled undertones. Thanks.
