following the Satie craze, here is a piece, whose name translates to Book of Sounds, by a lesser known "beautiful minimalist", student of Paul HIndemith, as played by Herbert Henck for ECM's New Edition. no luxurious wax n wane -- pressed for time -- up against the clock -- gun held to head -- having to come up with awkward and crude comparison: Harold Budd meets Steve Reich.
apologize for slight "frying eggs" static on this recording... but I did not even notice it even on repeated listening at modest volumes - only when you turn it up is it apparent.

and also, finally, after an excruciating wait, the most succulent of fruits left behind by James Tenney, gotten from The Grasp™, somehow omitted from his earlier post in some grand absurd theatricality; re-compressed in weildy bytes (original being something like 500 mb), re-presented here and now for its seductiveness, for its devotion and bravery, in leaving petty human drama behind, in transcending our microscopic joys and miseries, and reaching, encompassing a cosmic narrative, some tale of beyond, of glacial or fiery geological, planetary time...
Grasp-speak from the original rip and post:
These pieces in particular, but much of Tenney's other music, too, has kept me in serious poised tension and wonder for the better part of two years now, maybe longer. These "Forms" pieces are gorgeous sound sculptures which sound like clouds of acoustic instrumental drones, long-tones, designed to accentuate the activity among harmonics in the instruments' physical properties. It's lush and vibrant and oddly affecting music that keeps dragging me back to it, into it. ... Knowing the theoretical mechanics of the pieces, however, is in no way essential to the enjoyment of them; at least, this has been my experience. Remarkable music, and hopefully as much long-term enjoyment for you as they have been for me.

"gun to the head" eh?

etc etc
there's a noise like fried egg in the record.
whats up?
yeah bills, things get ugly if you don't post for a long time. you listenin Grasp? (entirely joking of course)
to anon:
oh that is my morning feast remix. I re-record all the music i have in the kitchen while my wife makes breakfast. just kidding I don't have a wife.
in which one? which disc? which track? or all of it? my files have no problems, they are both records I have listend to many times in entirety.
anyone else hear the fried eggs? mmmm... fried eggs... maybe I should get married soon
i get fried eggs. the music sounds beautiful though. the eggs are a pain though
but on which track? or which recod???
hans otte, all tracks. didn't check out tenney yet
would it be possible to reup hans otte? it sound like there are a few 1's and 0's missing there.
sure thing... gimme a minute...
what? no one is buying the "but it is SO avant-garde" excuse for the breakfast noise?
That Hans Otte is a great record - nice one.
Oh, how I remember the first time I heard this, I loved loved loved the piece. Thank you, especially because this new recording is slightly slower than the piece as it is in my memory, the tempo a bit below what I am used to. Just gorgeous.
Of course, the fried eggs bit comes up whenever the volume goes a little loud. It seems the gain when ripping was set a bit high?
so I guess the files I have have this static... so can not help you... new mediafire links anyway.
Howdy again,
Thanks for uploading a second time. I've found that the audio noise only shows up in the first .zip file.
In the reloaded file, when I download from mediafire, I get a corrupt zip file. It can't be extracted, using a variety of programs. I've downloaded twice, and each time, the error was in a different part of the extraction (once in part II, and once in part I)
Like I said, the second file was clean for me. And the crackling noise isn't bad if you keep the volume down...
Could you please re-up the other 10 of 13 spectral records. It would be very much appreciated.
hi zhao - so (for us slow'n's), the Tenney pieces are different than the files grasp loaded at ska? which I d/l'd but never did figure out how/if I could open 'em - are these mp3's then? or something else? inquirin' minds 'n all
if so, I'm excited!
grasp had put up flacs if i remember correctly, lossless. for those files you need a converter, I think xact or... what is ther other one... can't remember which are for converting WMA's and which one is for FLAC and OGG...
but at any rate, these are mp3's. 190 at the least.
I'll start re-upping the spectrals tonight.
hi there!
otte is a ver fine record. reminds me a bit of the solo-piano pieces of popol vuh's gardens of pharao (even if otte is more classical).
thanks for sharing this!
funny no one has made comment about Tenney's Forms... such colosal, mind expandingly lush works...
many thanks! I'm very much looking fwd to hearing Forms. took a class from him way back when but have heard very little of his work (@ Sac's NAM mebbe?) - the percussion pieces intrigued as well
(I've been able to play ogg's, but never got back to figuring what I needed for the flacs)
Could someone direct me to the flacs of Tenney's Forms? Afraid I don't know where "ska" is...
Thanks in advance.

Hey. Part 2 of Hans Otte's album is no more available. Could you repost the link? I've been looking for this album for a long time. Thank you.
